Outsmart Anxiety
Reasoning with anxious thoughts.
Anxiety is a perfectly normal human emotion. It’s the feeling that kept early humans safe while hunting and gathering. Imagine you’re out gathering berries, and a bear jumps out of the bushes. You’ll be anxious when you go out berry picking tomorrow. And for good reason! Your brain is readying your body to fight or for flight.
Today, most of us won’t be encountering a bear in the bushes, but our brains and bodies haven’t gotten the memo. Instead, we feel anxiety around things like answering emails, flying, or… writing blog posts.
So I ask, reasonably speaking, what’s the worst that can happen? Maybe you’ll have spelling errors in that email, and the person reading it will point out your error. You’ll be embarrassed, maybe you’ll apologize for the error which will be a bit humbling. Then what?
You’ll move on with your day.
This same strategy can be applied to a wide variety of anxious thoughts, and can help stop rumination in its tracks.
Let’s work together to show anxiety who’s boss.
